History

All basic information Pascal would happily offer up (perhaps with differing levels of moroseness, depending on his state of drunkenness).Early Years
Pascal is from a small Gelmorran hamlet near the Surface called Gévaudan. A class clown and protector of the bullied weirdos, Pascal soon found his little pod of close friends in Theodule and Iolaine. He had big dreams of being a great novelist, and shining a positive light on Gelmorra. While he wrote his stories, he found odd jobs on the Surface, and as a young man married his childhood friend, Iolaine. Eventually the odd jobs weren't enough to support his growing family, and he was lured into signing onto the Lancers Guild, with big promises of bigger pay and opportunities. Those opportunities, he found out, were mostly joining the Wood Wailers, something he never quite had the stomach to do. In an effort to support his family, he grew less picky about what jobs he took, and their potential legality. It wasn't until after the Calamity, when cave-ins destroyed entire portions and passages of Gelmorra and their little hamlet, that he started taking on debt.


His Writing Career
Pascal's first writing success came in publication of his chapters in a niche Gridanian serial. His supernatural noir detective series was engaging, and had a small following. While the pay wasn't much, he hoped it would help him get more attention. And it did! He was offered an opportunity to ghost write for a popular Gridanian children's horror author. Surely, this would be a stepping stone!


Midlife Crisis
It wasn't a stepping stone.
He wrote manuscript after manuscript under another man's name (a wealthy Wildwood, no less), growing further and further into despair. After the Calamity, the "author" decided he was retiring from the writing he never did. And Pascal was left without writing work, and forced to turn his focus more on work with the Lancers Guild. Several turns back, his daughter was accepted for an internship at the Bismark in Limsa Lominsa (rumours abounded that she was only accepted for diversity reasons, as they saw few Gelmorrans come through their program). Pascal quit the guild, and went with her to help her set up her new life. Things at home had been awkward, anyhow, and a little space would surely be good for them both, a little change of scenery. Perhaps the ocean air might be inspiring and he would start writing again. He found a little room for rent, and was soon forced into more debt and more shady work, while continuing to fail at writing. He did, however, discover he was gay! A fact which he finally shared with his wife a year later, when he finally returned.

HOOKS

WRITER | Pascal has always had big dreams of being a great novelist. Dreams rarely come to fruition, and his novels published are done under another's name, with an NDA he is somewhat flippant about honouring depending on his state of inebriation.
Hook Ideas: Do you recall nearly twenty years ago a series of supernatural noir detective serials published in a small Gridanian publication? Or perhaps you read the children's horror books, Zu's Bumps, when you were young? Rumours persist that the wealthy Wildwood who wrote them used a ghostwriter...

LANCERS GUILD | Pascal had been a part of the guild for a while, though left it a few years back. He was known for being a quiet and reliable hand on a job (atypical traits to any who know him outside of work), did his best to not make waves, and would usually keep quiet when remarks derogatory towards Duskwight were made. He doesn't know anything about the plan to steal from the Guild coffers. They already caught the guy, anyway.
Hook Ideas: Were you in the guild, or one of the Wailers? Did you participate in (or help investigate) the coffer theft from a few years back?

GELMORRA | Pascal is Gelmorran, and lives in a small community of Issom-Har called Gévaudan. Any locals would know his reputation for borrowing gil, drinking more than he ought, and having the sweetest (now ex-)wife.
Hook Ideas: Are you from another community in Issom-Har? Did you leave? Did you stay? Did you even know people still live down there?

BROKE | Pascal is broke and deeply, deeply in debt. Some of his creditors are friendly neighbors, though some are ill-advised loan sharks spread across the three city-states. He plays down how desperate his finances are in the moment (and his drinking habit certainly doesn't help), but the reality is he's willing to take most any job he can get currently if it will hold his creditors at bay.

DATING AN ADDER??? | Some in the Adder ranks might have noticed him in public with one of their younger Captains. Word is this Gelmorran left the Lancers Guild... Word is he has some connections with the Redbelly Wasps. Word is, he owes some dangerous people a lot of gil. Maybe the Captain knows what he's doing, but people have been asking questions, that's all...
